“The child is in me still…and sometimes not so still.” Fred Rogers
I really enjoy Mr. Roger’s comments about still being a child. I still like the idea of being a child from time to time. The other night I was flipping through the channels on TV and came across one of my favorite classic movies “Hackers”. This quote from Mr. Rogers reminded me of a part in the movie where Cereal Killer (Matthew Lillard) quotes
1 Corinthians 13:11 “When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things.” Well I may have put away childish things, but the little kid still runs free from time to time. Tonight was a great example. I was playing with my son and all he wanted to do was play with a made up lasso and wrestle. So of course who was the one to pick him up and give him a body slam? Of coursed it was followed by lassoing his legs up so he couldn’t move. Yes, it was me. I know that the Apostle Paul wasn’t saying that playing with my son was childish, but at the same time how often does the childish behavior being selfish, and impatient come out. I think Mr. Rogers has a great point that the kid in me sometimes isn’t so still. I think the key is having the control to master yourself. One day at a time.
